Maintenance and renovation of the varnish coating

Maintenance and renovation of the varnish coating

Every square centimeter of beautifully glossy paint delays the impression of an aging car, it is therefore worth taking care of the paintwork of the body. A new car does not require too many maintenance treatments. Regular washing and removal of insect remains is completely sufficient, tar stains and stone impact marks. However, after two, three years old sun, rain, dirt and frequent washing of the car can take its toll on the paintwork, which now requires a thorough cleaning. Do a water test: when water drops on a clean varnish do not have sharp edges and melt away, then it means the need to take care of the paintwork.

Paint cleaning preparations

Which paint care agent will be suitable for your car depends on the condition of the paintwork. A mild emulsion is sufficient for a relatively new and well-kept paintwork. It smoothes the paint surface, dull due to weather conditions and as a result of mechanical damage. it works by blurring microscopic furrows in the outer layer of the varnish coat. The emulsion also contains an admixture of car body wax. The paint cleaner is like a poison to the body of a new car, but it is very suitable for older and damaged paintwork.

It is never too late to care for your paintwork

The paint cleaner works in a similar way to the care emulsion, but contains coarser grit abrasives, which can also cope with larger pollutants. It is never too late to care for your paintwork, if you were thinking about a new refinishing of an older Golf, try paint cleaners first. These measures do not, unlike emulsions, preservative ingredients. Therefore, the cleaned paint should be additionally protected with wax for car bodies.

Maintenance of the varnish coating

Two are very advisable, apply a new varnish coat three times a year, and already cleaned, maintenance treatment. This allows you to keep the gloss of the paintwork longer and preserve it for some time. Most emulsions and paint cleaners are aggressive in operation. So do not put them on the body in direct sunlight, as this can lead to the chemical compounds contained in these agents fusing into the paintwork.

1 Before applying the emulsion, wash the car thoroughly.

2 Check in an inconspicuous place, does your car's paint tolerate this measure?. Be especially careful with cleaning agents: apply a very thin layer. Too much agent rubs too much of the outer layer of paint. Better to clean the varnish carefully twice.

3 Apply the care emulsion or the cleaning agent with large pieces of cotton or synthetic cotton wool or with a soft cloth (it must not be plastic). On a not too large surface, rub in the center with circular movements, lightly pressing.

4 It will dry out after a short time, white coating, which also wipe with circular movements with cotton wool. In the case of old paintwork, carefully clean the edges of the plates. If the emulsion is rubbed too hard, the protective coating of the varnish will peel off to the base.

Do not clean more than half a square meter at a time. The drying emulsion is difficult to rub. You won't be able to do it on a large area.

5 After a while, polishing becomes more difficult, because the wax and conditioning agent particles have an inhibitory effect. Turn the cotton wool over, or take a new piece.

To bring the varnish to a gloss, rub the white dry coating with large pieces of cotton wool under pressure. When you feel too much resistance, turn the cotton wool over or replace it with a new one.

6 Finally, wipe the varnish with a clean cotton cloth to remove any residual white coating and cotton fibers.

Wipe the polished places with a clean cotton cloth. This way you will remove traces of white residue and sticky cotton fibers.

Correct maintenance of the paintwork

7 Apply the car wax with cotton wool. How large the surface can be waxed at once depends on the product used. Caution. Preservatives contain a lot of volatile substances. Make sure the room is well ventilated!

8 Rub the wax with cotton wool under light pressure in circular movements. Even movements and good wax quality will give the paintwork a perfect shine.

9 When you feel a growing resistance, the cotton wool should be changed to a new one. Do it as often as possible.

10 If after maintenance there are streaks and stains visible on the paintwork, this means that the paint particles are rubbed together when cleaning the paintwork. These places should be reapplied with emulsion or cleaner.

If the preservative begins to clump into drops while rubbing in, this means that the surface tension of the paint is still too high. Then you need to use a mild care emulsion.
